Taxi was built with a fairly simple aim: give every Kiwi business, not just the biggest ones, access to the kind of funding that provisional tax makes possible. We do that by helping you access affordable working capital secured against your provisional tax payments.
We've just been certified as a B Corp, a milestone we've been working towards quietly for a while, and one that matters more for the accountability it brings than for the badge itself. An independent body assessed us across five areas of how we run things: people, governance, community, planet and customers, each covered below.
People, first
We're a small team, and that means everyone here is close enough to Taxi's mission to feel it in their day-to-day work. It doesn't come at the expense of looking after each other properly, though. Parental leave runs to six months fully paid, followed by six months at reduced hours on full pay, open to any parent regardless of caregiving role, with support for family building through adoption, surrogacy and IVF built in. Sick leave doesn't require anyone to schedule their health around a policy, and the team has access to unlimited therapy and coaching, because we take looking after people's heads as seriously as we take looking after their bodies.
Governance you can trust
We move real money against real IRD deadlines, so decisions here don't happen casually. There's a board sitting above the whole organisation, which handles proper oversight. Day to day, the structure is flat, and that gets misread sometimes: flat doesn't mean there's no hierarchy, it means whoever's closest to a problem gets to solve it, instead of waiting three levels up for someone to sign off. Combined with a small team, that's largely why Taxi can move quickly when it needs to, while still answering for what it does.
Showing up for our community
We're a fintech, but we're also part of the small business community around us, and that shows up in more than good intentions. Each year, the Cultivate Technology Scholarship puts up to $30,000 over three years towards a young New Zealander building a future in tech, alongside ongoing coaching from people working across the fintech industry. The team also heads out for giving-back days, volunteering out in the community rather than from behind a desk.
Planet & environment
We're not a high-emissions business, but every business leaves some kind of footprint, and we've tried not to ignore ours. Taxi and Tax Traders share the same practices here: water-preserving taps around the office, plus proper sorting for recycling, compostables and soft plastics rather than one bin for everything. It even extends to e-waste from home. If someone on the team has an old charger that's been sitting in a drawer for two years, they can bring it in and we'll make sure it gets recycled properly.
Customers
Taxi exists because we noticed something unfair. Big businesses have had access to a genuinely affordable line of funding through tax pooling, while everyone else was left out, either because they'd never heard of it or the system simply wasn't built with them in mind. Fixing that is still what shapes decisions for the businesses who use Taxi today, from how we price things to how much we simplify along the way rather than complicate. Data protection matters just as much to us. Taxi holds ISO 27001 accreditation, so an independent body has actually verified how far we go to keep your information safe, rather than us just telling you to trust us.
Becoming a B Corp doesn't change what we've set out to do since day one. It just means someone independent looked at how we do it and signed off.
Thanks to our team, our clients, and our sibling company Tax Traders for being part of this one with us.
Here's to doing business differently, together.
